Treatment Options
Treatment options include the following:
1. Topical medications
- Metronidazole (Metrogel, Noritate)
- Azelaic Acid (Finacea)
- Sulfur and sodium sulfacetamide (Clenia, Plexion, Rosac)
- Other (Clindamycin, Benzoyl Peroxide)
2. Oral Medications
- Oral anti-inflammatory (Oracea). Oracea consists of a lower anti-inflammatory dose of doxycycline. It is effective at treating the inflammatory lesions of rosacea, such as the red bumps, and pustules, without the antibiotic side effects seen with larger doses.
3. Laser, IPL and other Procedures
- Green or yellow light lasers may be used for unwanted red blood vessels and blushing/flushing
- Intense Pulse Light (IPL) may be used to lessen the appearance of red vessels and facial blushing
- Electrosurgery and/or a CO2 laser may be used to reshape the nose of someone with rhinophyma
